Lake Leatherwood Trails
Lake Leatherwood City Park (LLCP) has been one of Eureka Springs most popular destinations since the 1940s, when construction of the historic limestone dam was completed. Did you know it's one of the largest city parks in the country? Boasting over 1600 acres of pristine Ozark landscape, LLCP now serves as one of Northwest Arkansas’ premier outdoor recreational resources. The 20 miles of hand-cut shared-use trails are unique to the area with Shoreline Trail going along the lake being a local hiking trail favorite. The Lake Leatherwood Gravity Project offers one of the few fully dedicated shuttle services in mid-America. In addition to trails, LLCP also provides for many other recreational opportunities, such as boat rentals, kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, fishing, swimming, baseball and soccer fields, and it has a large playground. Nightly lodging options ranging from primitive tent sites to fully furnished cabins are also available, making LLCP a true outdoor recreation destination. Located at 1303 County Road 204, Eureka Springs, AR 72632.
Black Bass Lake Trails
Black Bass City Park is one of Eureka Springs’ newer recreational destinations. The 3-mile trail system offers a surprising amount of variety for its size, ranging from rocky, bluff and moss-lined trails to easy strolls along the scenic shoreline. Each of the five trails contains a number of interesting geologic and historic features, such as Standing Rock (Standing Rock Trail), Roosevelt Rock, (Oil Springs Trail), and of course, the limestone-faced dam, which dates back to 1894, making it one of the oldest dams in the Ozarks. In addition to trails, the ‘no motor’ lake offers great fishing, and a number of hike-in or drive-in picnic sites are available.
Walking around the Eureka Springs in-town trails transports you back in time. Whether you choose to wander downtown streets or follow the Harmon Loop and the Spring Garden Trails, be prepared for an enchanting walk filled with history, folklore, and artistry. From grand old homes to quaint fenced cottages, to the natural springs and gardens that have been revered since the 1850s, you're sure to find something that captivates your heart. Take some moments to pause along the way on a bench, under a shade tree, or just stop and enjoy the views.
