Lake Leatherwood: A gem on the National Register of Historic Places

Updated: Jan 19

Did you know that Lake Leatherwood City Park is on the National Register of Historic Places?

It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1938 and 1942 as a place of recreation. The dam construction started in 1938 and the caretaker’s residence (Family Cabin 1), the Bathhouse and the lakeside resources including the Diving Tower (shown in this 1950s photo) were built in 1939. The Bait Shop/General Store and cabins were built in 1954 with the newer cabins being built in 2017, along with the playground.

Obviously there have been many updates between now and then around the park and we continue to do so. Right now, we’re in the midst of refreshing in Cabin 6 which will soon be complete!

Don’t forget that we have a 20% off discount on cabin rentals running through February 18, 2024.

Book online at eurekaparks.com or by calling 479-253-7921. Use code 001 to get the discount!
